הזדמנות – הזדמנות זאת המילה שיושבת הראש שלי יחימוביץ' מרבה להשתמש בה בהופעותיה בתקשורת. “ניתנה לנו הזדמנות". אכן ניתנה למפלגת העבודה הזדמנות. אני שמח על כך שאחרי שנים במדבר ניתנה למפלגת העבודה הזדמנות. אבל למה ניתנה ההזדמנות ? שלי יחימוביץ' עומדת על כך, לא, מתעקשת על כך שניתנה לה ההזדמנות להוביל אג'נדה שמכילה את הנושא החברתי/כלכלי בלבד.
אני מבין את שלי יחימוביץ' כאשר היא אומרת: " זו האג'נדה שהובלתי בפריימריס, על האג'נדה הזאת אני נבחרתי לתפקיד, מטעמי אמינות כלפי המצביעים שלי, זאת האג'נדה שמחייבת אותי."
מסתבר שיושבת הראש טרם הפנימה שהמעמד שלה השתנה: היא כבר לא בפריימריס מעל חודשיים. נגמרו הפריימריס. היא לא אחראית על קידומה של שלי יחימוביץ' בלבד . הנושא החברתי/כלכלי הוא לא הנושא היחידי על האג'נדה שמחייבת אותה. שלי יחימוביץ' מובילה היום את מפלגת העבודה כולה. זאת אחריות גדולה יותר, גדולה יותר בהרבה. זאת אחריות לאומית.
למה אחריות לאומית ? כי ממשלת נתניהו מובילה את מדינת ישראל לאבדון. המדינה לא יכולה לשאת קדנציה נוספת של ממשלה ברשות בנימין נתניהו בלי שיגרם נזק בלתי הפיך. לא, המדינה לא תכחד, היא לא תיעלם. היא תתפורר, תתמסמס, היא תפסיק להיות מדינה בה אנשים ליברלים, דמוקרטים חילוניים וחפצי זכויות אדם ירגישו בנוח.
למה אחריות לאומית ? כי אין אלטרנטיבה שילטונית ניראת לעין. לא ציפי ליבני ולא שאול מופז, לא יאיר לפיד (אם יתייצב לדגל) ולא אריה דרעי יוכלו להוציא את המדינה מהצרות אליהן היא נכנסה, בין היתר בשותפות המלאה של מפלגת העבודה בממשלות קודמות. גם אם שלי יחימוביץ' מתקשה, גם אם בכל כוחה היא מנסה להוריד ציפיות, למרות הכל, בינתיים היא והמפלגה שרק לפני חודשיים עשו לה החייאה, הם האלטרנטיבה השלטונית השפויה היחידה של מדינת ישראל לשלטונו של נתניהו.
זאת הסיבה שלמפלגת העבודה יש חובה לאומית לנצל את ההזדמנות שניתנה לה לא רק בנושא עליו נבחרה שלי יחימוביץ' לתפקיד היו"ר אלא גם בנושאי חוץ, בנושאי בטחון ולבטח בנושא האזרחי. יש למפלגת העבודה חובה לאומית ושלי יחימוביץ' חייבת להיות מנהיגה לאומית, גם בנושאים אלו. אם היא לא תנהיג בכל הנושאים היא לא תהיה רלוונטית.
אם מפלגת העבודה לא תנצל את ההזדמנות שניתנה לה לכל רוחב הזירה הפוליטית היא תהיה בדיוק מה שלא מעט פרשנים חזו – מפלגת נישה. נישה נחמדה, נישה מרווחת, אולי אפילו הנישה החשובה ביותר אבל עדיין נישה.
ברור שאני לא מצפה ששלי יחימוביץ' אישית תטפל באג'נדות איתן היא לא מחוברת בנפש באותו להט בו היא מובילה את אג'נדה החברתית/כלכלית. אני לא מצפה ממנה לעבוד בניגוד לחושים שלה. האמינות שלה היא נכס חשוב, לא, היא נכס קריטי בימים בהם כל העולם מפקפק, או בעצם כבר לא מפקפק, באמינותו של ראש הממשלה.
אני מצפה משלי יחימוביץ' את אותו אומץ הלב שהיא גילתה למשך שנים כחברת כנסת מן השורה כאשר הובילה כמעט לבדה נושאים שהפכו רק לאחרונה לנושאים המרכזיים ביותר בשיח הציבורי. אותו אומץ לב צריך להוביל אותה היום למסקנה אחת ואחת בלבד: מפלגת העבודה היא מפלגה הוליסטית, היא מפלגה שיש לה אג'נדה רחבה, שיש לה אג'נדה בכל נושא רלוונטי והיא חייבת להוביל אותה בכל התחומים.
אז מה אני מבקש משלי יחימוביץ' ? מצפה ממנה ? אני מבקש ממנה דבר פשוט: היא לא לבדה במערכה. היא חייבת להאציל סמכויות, לבחור לה אנשים, צוותים אישיים שיטפלו בנושאים בהם היא לא חזקה. הרי היא ענתה לשאלה בטלוויזיה מה היא תעשה אם היא תצטרך להתמודד עם נושא שהיא לא שולטת בו באומרה שהיא תתיעץ עם מומחים. שתיקח לה מומחים. הם עומדים בתור לעזור לה. בהתנדבות. במפלגה יש תותחים בכל נושא. הם חייבים לעבוד כבר עכשיו על מנת להכין לה ולמפלגה מצעים ותגובות בכל התחומים. זאת כמובן יחד עם הועדות השונות שכבר פועלות במפלגה. דרך אגב, גם אג'נדת הדגל של יושבת הראש, חברה/כלכלה, יכולה רק להרוויח אם כמה מומחים יתלבשו עליה.
אנחנו לקראת בחירות וכל יום אנחנו מתקרבים אליהן. ההזדמנות היא של מפלגת העבודה ואני לא בטוח אם תהיה לנו הזדמנות נוספת. המדינה חולה בכל התחומים, לא רק בתחום החברתי/כלכלי. ההזדמנות היא של מפלגה הוליסטית שמובילה בתחום הכלכלי-חברתי ויש לה מה להציע בכל נושא אחר.
שלי יחימוביץ', הרימי את הכפפה, אנחנו חייבים להפיל את הממשלה הזאת. נצליח בכך רק אם נתקוף בכל החזיתות, בכל הכוח, עכשיו. אנחנו מוכנים לכך. ואת ?
Labor's Opportunity
Opportunity – that is the word which Labor's Chairperson, Shelly Yechimovic, likes to use in her appearances in public. "We were given an opportunity". Indeed, Labor was given an opportunity.
I am happy that Labor finally has an opportunity. The questions is, an opportunity to do what ? Shelly Yechimovic stubbornly insists that she has the opportunity to promote an agenda that consists of social and economic issues only. I understand Shelly Yechimovic when she says: "That's the agenda I led in the primaries, I was elected on this agenda and to maintain credibility with my supporters, that is the agenda to which I am committed."
It appears that the chairperson has not yet internalized that her status has changed: She is not running in the primaries already for more than two months. The primaries are over. Her responsibility is not over the advancement of Shelly Yechimovic only. The social and economic agendas are not the only issues to which she has to commit. Shelly Yechimovic is the leader of the whole Labor Party. That is a considerable responsibility, a lot bigger. That is a responsibility on a national scale. Why national ? Because the Netanyahu government is leading this country into oblivion. The country cannot sustain another tenure of a Netanyau led government without suffering permanent damage. No, the country will not be destroyed or disappear. It will break up, dissolve, it will cease to be a country where liberal, democratic and secular people who cherish human rights will feel comfortable. Why on a national scale ? Because there is no other alternative to the government in sight. Not Tzippi Livni, not Shaul Mofaz, not Yair Lapid (should he rise to the occasion) and not Arieh Deri can pull this country from the troubles it has been embroiled in thanks to, among others, the full participation of the Labor party in previous governments. Even if it's difficult for Shelly Yechimovic, even if with all her might she tries to lower expectations, despite everything, for the time being she and the Labor party which was brought back to life only two months ago, are the only sane alternative to a Netanyahu government. For that reason, Labor has a national duty to exploit this opportunity, not only to promote the issues that swept Shelly Yechimovic into power but also foreign affairs and security, civil society and education. Labor has a national duty and Shelly Yechimovic has to be a national leader on these issues as well. Should she not coopt these issues, she will cease to be relevant. If the Labor party will not exploit the opportunity it was given across the board of the political spectrum, it will become exactly what quite a few commentators predicted – a niche party. It will be a nice niche, a spacious niche, may be even the most important niche but nevertheless, a niche.
Obviously I do not expect Shelly Yechimovic to personally lead on issues that she is not attuned to with the same kind of spirit that she leads the social and economic agenda. I do not expect her to counter her own instincts. Her credibility is an important asset, even a critical asset at a time the whole world has doubts or rather has no doubts regarding the credibility of the Prime Minister. I expect Shelly Yechimovic to show the same courage she showed for years as a Knesset member when she took the lead, almost on her own, on issues that just recently became central in the public dialogue. The same courage should lead her today to the one and only conclusion: Labor is a holistic party with a wide ranging agenda covering all relevant issues and she should lead in all of them. So what do I ask Shelly Yechimovic to do ? Expect from her ? Just one simple thing: She is not alone in this struggle. She must delegate authority, select people, professional teams that deal with those subjects she is not familiar with. After all it was she who responded to the TV anchor's question as to what she would do if required to deal with an issue she is not familiar with by claiming she would call on the best experts for advice. Those experts are standing in line to help her, on a voluntary basis. The Labor part has top people in every field you can think of. They have to be put to work now to prepare policies and ongoing responses in all areas. That, off course, in conjunction with the different committees that the party has already created to improve the dialogue with party members. Incidentally, even her flagship social and economic agendas can only gain from some some expert advice.
We are approaching elections and each days brings us closer to them. Labor has an opportunity and I don't know if there will be another one. The country is in trouble in all areas, not only in the social and economical sphere. The opportunity is for a holistic party to lead on social and economical issues but offering a full agenda on all relevant other issues. Shelly Yechimovic, take on the challenge, we need to bring down this government now. We will succeed only if we fight on all fronts, with all our might, now. We are ready to do so. What about you ?
